Question: Can my 3-year old play?
Answer: We had quite a few 3 year olds play last year to the point of having enough to form both a U5 league (3 & 4 year olds) and U7 league (5 and 6 year olds).
If we have enough of each age group to do that again, we will. If we don't have enough, we'll end up with 3, 4, & 5 year olds playing together.
As either situations are a possibility, I leave this to your discretion. If you have any additional questions or concerns, feel free to ask.
If you are OK with either situation, your child may play. If you have reservations about that possibility, I would recommend you wait until the following season or ask again in a few weeks.
Question: Requests - May I request teammates and/or coaches?
Answer: You may request coaches and/or teammates, however we cannot guarantee any request is honored. We will try to do our best, but not all requests are possible.
Question: Team: When do I find out what team my child is on?
Answer: Teams are typically formed within a couple of weeks of registration closing to allow for late registrations and requests. In the Spring, teams are formed near the end of March/ beginning of April. In the Fall, teams are formed near the beginning of August.
Team and league formation are impacted by the number of players at each age and the number of coaches who have volunteered. Team/league formation may be delayed if more coaches are required in order to have teams which are appropriately sized.
Once teams are formed, coaches get their rosters, are to contact their teams as soon as possible, & start practices at their earliest convenience.
Question: Practices: When & How often?
Answer: Practices are up to each coach. Depending on the age of the kids and coach, the number and frequency of practices can vary greatly.
Question: Season: When does it start/end?
Answer: Seasons are typically planned around the weather and the school year. The Spring Season typically has games from late April/early May through the end of the school year (typically mid/late-June) so we limit possible family vacation interference. Fall has games typically starting either the Saturday before or after Labor Day with games ending in either Late October or early November depending on the weather.
Question: Set nights: Is there a standardized schedule?
Answer: Games schedules are based partially on the needs of coaches. We do not want to eliminate a volunteer from being able to coach because of their schedule. If we can make it work, we would like to have as many people coaching as possible.
Games vary from week to week as far as night of the week. Schedules are not made until after teams are determined. Also, schedules are made in part based on the schedules of those willing to coach. We do not have any set days or times as a result.
Question: Games: How often & How many?
Answer: As far as timing & frequency, games are played on a field with no lights, so we are dependent on daylight.
In the Spring: That means the first few weeks of the season are Saturdays only. Saturdays have games beginning at 8:45am and can start as late as 4:30pm.
In the Fall: the season begins with games on Saturdays and weekdays and we lose the 7:15pm games, and then eventually the 6pm games as we lose daylight.
We then add in week nights at 6pm, and eventually add in 7:15pm. Once week nights are added to the schedule, there is an average of 1 week night game and 1 Saturday game per team.
Question: Location: Games and Practices; Where are they?
Answer: All games are at either at Phillips Field (Geryville Pike & Hendricks Rd, Pennsburg, PA 18073) or Finland Field - Finland Road, Pennsburg.
Practice location is determined based on field availability and coach’s choice from number of options we are permitted to use within the UP Valley.
